Sports roundup: Fresno City wins in men's basketball

In a showdown of top-five state-ranked men's basketball teams, Alex Perez had 12 points and 13 assists as No. 4 Fresno City College beat No. 3 Saddleback 79-65 on Tuesday in Mission Viejo.

Rams freshman Olajuwon Garner finished with a game-high 14 points, including four 3-pointers for the Rams, who shot 57% from the field. The win was Fresno's seventh on the road this season.

The Rams continue their road trip at 7 p.m. today in Riverside.

Reedley men pick up road win

Fidel Cardenas scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half as the Reedley College men's basketball team pulled away from Solano College for a 66-51 victory in Fairfield on Tuesday.

Freshman guard Andre Frazier-Stanley scored a game-high 19 points and also had a season-high seven blocks and six rebounds for the Tigers, who shot 55% from the field.

Reedley next hosts Delta in a nonconference game at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Locals on NAIA All-America squad

Biola middle blocker Amy Weststeyn of Visalia and Master's College outside hitter Sam Dougherty of Madera were named to the NAIA All-America volleyball team.

Weststeyn, a sophomore from Central Valley Christian High, was named to the first team after helping the Eagles reach the semifinals at the NAIA National Championships, where she was named to the all-tournament team. Last season, she was the NAIA Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-American.

Dougherty, a junior from Madera High, was named to the second team after helping the Mustangs reach the round of 16 in their first appearance at the NAIA Championships.
