Ceremony celebrates historic baseball event in Kitsap | World Series

BREMERTON ? The 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series was a long time coming for Brent Stenman and Russell Barker.

As the opening day ceremony came to a close, Stenman walked off the field, breathing a sigh of relief. He could finally sit down and enjoy the tournament he and Barker have spent years to bring to Kitsap.

Of course, the two co-host presidents didn't do it by themselves. Numerous volunteers were recognized during the ceremony.

The Suquamish Tribe and Port Madison Enterprises were once again recognized for the contributions to the effort, including donations and the use of Kiana Lodge for the banquet.

The 10 world series teams were introduced and given awards.

And just when things looked to be winding down, the baseball for the first pitch was delivered via skydivers.

The world series continues through Aug. 22.
