Motorcycle Bluetooth Devices Get Social

Cardo

?

Motorcycle purists might want to look away: the two-wheeled realm, once a pure environment of wind and road noise, has been slowly but surely become inundated with technology.

?

In-helmet bluetooth devices are no longer novel, but Cardo's scala rider G9 adds a new "One+8" feature that uses voice tags to identify different riders. Full duplex conversations can be held between motorcycles up to one mile apart, and a conference feature enables four-way conversations between two drivers and two passengers, three-way dialogues among three separate riders, and two-way rider-to-rider discussions. The system also has a built-in FM tuner, an A2DP connection for MP3 music streaming, and cell phone connectivity.

?

Traditionalists can (and likely will) scoff at the technology, but for motorcycle tourers frustrated by cryptic hand signals at speed, bluetooth units make it easier to shoot the breeze, discuss route strategies, or groove along to tunes.

?

The Cardo G9 runs $289.95 for a single unit, or $499.95 for a paired set.?
