Weight Loss Boot Camps: What Are They?

Article Directory :: Health & Fitness Articles

A lot of people are inclined to have a view of a boot camp consisting of a guy dressed in army uniform shouting instructions at new recruits and generally making their lives a living hell. This is in all probability because the term boot camp is derived from the process that new recruits would have to go through to get themselves in shape before they were allowed to join the army properly.

Even though most weight loss boot camps use the word, the old army way of thinking could not be further from the truth. The term boot camp is actually used as a metaphor for getting great results in the shortest time possible. Most camps in the UK and the USA normally like to run in blocks of four weeks and it is during the first of these four week blocks that people get the most impressive results.

Basically what happens is that they get whipped into shape really fast in just the same way that the new army recruits did. The thing is though that there is no uniformed sergeant major or corporal shouting instruction at you, just lots of advice on nutrition, motivation and exercising in the proper way to avoid injury and make sure that you get the best results possible. The nutrition part is one of the most important things you can do when you are looking to lose body fat. It does not matter how hard you train if you do not try to control what you are eating to a certain degree. You can't out train your diet no matter what you do exercise wise, its just impossible.

Nutrition amounts to over seventy percent of the results you will get in any weight loss program, so if you decide that you want to go to a weight loss boot camp, make sure that they give you a nutritional plan that is designed to help you lose weight quickly and supports you eating healthier in general.

Eating healthier is really a key part because this helps give your body all the nutrients needed while at the same time helping to cut down on the less that healthy processed foods that make us store unwanted body fat. Eating healthier to lose weight rather than focusing on just cutting calories also stops our bodies from going into starvation mode. This ultimately helps us to get quicker weight loss results than if we were to just count calories only.

The exercise portion of any boot camp or fit camp needs to be structured to get maximum benefits. Ideally this should consist of circuit style exercise routines using body weight exercise and not too much steady state cardio. Exercise should include things like squats, lunges, planks, core exercises and press-ups.

It is also important to make sure that they do not do too much press up exercises however; as this can affect your posture and that the exercise instructor or trainer also makes sure you work on your back muscles as well. The cobra is an excellent exercise for reinforcing the upper back muscles particularly if you do a desk job that means you are sat at a desk for anything up to eight hours per day.

Lastly the last thing any weight-loss boot camp should look at is how much sleep you are getting. Sleep is something that can affect weight loss. You need to try and get around eight hours of quality sleep per night in order to keep your cortisol levels low and make sure that your body is primed for the next day. It is recommended that you get to bed by around 10:30pm every night and get up around 6:30 am for greatest long term weight loss results.
