A conservatorship is a court proceeding in which a judge appoints a responsible person called a conservator to handle the financial affairs of someone who can no longer do so on their own.? We discuss the frequently asked questions regarding conservatorship and the court proceedings.

What if someone does not want to have a conservator appointed to handle their affairs ? do they have a say in this proceeding?

Margaret Cho Breaks Barriers In World Of Comedy

She is one of America's most well-known comedians. But breaking-in in the mostly white, male world of comedy, was a challenge for Korean-American actress and comedian Margaret Cho.

"To be in show business is really to feel a sense of invisibility, if you're not white, if you're not a man," the San-Francisco native says. "Those two things are so much a part of how a comedian is defined."

Yet, she found inspiration for her performances in her immigrant family.

"When you are from an immigrant family, there is something to making fun of your immigrant roots," she adds.

When Cho was a little girl, her father was deported to Korea, an event that made her family very protective of their American identity and status.

"I'm the only member of my family to have been born in America, so my mother would always push me forward and say She's white," she says.

Later her father was able to return to the U.S., but him leaving made her see that they are outsiders in this country and gave her a different point of view in starting the work she does. Cho wanted to maker sure that:

"We had a voice that was being heard and that our voice had a lot of humor to it, because within humor, there is a lot of strength," she explains.

Knowing she never wanted to be anything else but a comedian, Cho started her career at as a teenager and became financially independent at age 16.

She went on to work with acclaimed comedians, such as Jerry Seinfeld and Bob Hope. In 1994, Cho won the American Comedy Award for Best Female Comedian.

That same year, based on her stand-up routine, ABC developed and aired a sitcom, starring Cho, called All American Girl. Although short lived, it was one of the first shows to prominently feature an Asian-American woman. Yet, it also became a challenge for Cho's physical appearance.

"I was really considered such an outlaw for being an Asian-American that every other aspect of myself had to be controlled and weight was a big part of it," says she.

But the rejection only propelled her to do better and take on different projects. Since then, her TV career has included, The Cho Show, 30 Rock and Dancing with the Stars.

Today, Cho is shooting the third season of the Lifetime TV series, Drop Dead Diva, and producing Yellow, an album about rage, age and ethnicity.

As fiction, this is third rate. Sterling Hayden made his usual fairly flat performance, which suited the part of a Navy fighter squadron commander. His permanent scowl?or perhaps sneer?suited the role of the tough, battle-hardened flying ace trying to whip a new, untested squadron into an effective fighting force with tough love and good tactics. Richard Carlson, as his executive officer, was effective as the second-in-command who was too buddy buddy with the pilots, and thus often lost sight of the real mission: to kill Japs and win the war.

The plot is as old as fiction, and the movie is obviously low budget.

A great deal of the splendid photography came from the excellent World War II documentary film, "The Fighting Lady" (not to be confused with the Van Johnson fiction movie, "Men of the Fighting Lady"), which was filmed during actual combat on the Aircraft Carrier Enterprise?the original "Big E"?whose combat record was very impressive. The shots of carrier deck action, landings, wing camera shots of enemies being shot down and ground installations being bombarded and strafed were beautiful and dramatic, and recorded actual combat with real people being killed.

The movie would certainly rate five stars, were it simply based on the photography of the action. But?

But, the problems that made it a source of derision, for me at least, were the ludicrous consequences of trying to patch together a film composed of file footage from other sources. For example, a squadron is landing F4U Corsairs aboard the flattop, (reputedly the U.S.S. Princeton, although much of the footage was actually of the U.S.S. Enterprise, which I recognized) when one member of the very same squadron made a rough landing in an AD; an Korean War era aircraft which was not even in service during the 1944 period to which the movie reputedly referred.

Or, the squadron commander was flying along in his F4U, while clearly visible though the mock-up cockpit was his squadron?flying stock footage of F6F Grumman "Hellcats." Or when the squadron, which is referred to as the "Rosebuds" (the Navy used designations like VF-13, rather than names), is attacking a ground target in Corsairs, an excellent fighter with inverted gull wings, when suddenly, for no discernible reason, one or more of them are transformed by editing and splicing in the excellent documentary footage into an SB2C Curtis "Helldiver" dive bomber. Or when they are supposedly taking off in the pre-dawn darkness, the unmistakable flaps of an SBD Douglas "Dauntless" dive bomber are shown belching exhaust on takeoff.

Other faults abound: Navy pilots bunking in tiers of bunks in a large room, rather than two or three man staterooms, or ready rooms always shown bathed in red light, even when night flying was not the next action (red light was used to protect night vision.)

The movie was ruined for me, so far as the story was concerned, by such faux pas. It is almost as bad as the stock Pearl Harbor attack photos which replay over and over, in which the supposed Japanese attackers are shown flying the revered SBD Dauntlesses. Whoever made the first sequence of that footage should be shot for that particular mis-characterization of a famous old airplane.

But the movie is worth the price for the photography alone. Forget the story, or laugh derisively along with me.

What do you get when you put world-class tennis players at the top of their game on a finals court together? You get intense drama and emotion that portrays the essence of the sport. That's what happened this month in Melbourne, in the Men's Australian Tennis Final, a Grand Slam event. Rafael Nadal versus Roger Federer was an epic Down Under affair for the ages.

In one of the best Grand Slam finals ever, Rafael Nadal triumphed over Roger Federer in an ultra-competitive five-set match. The duo traded set wins for the first four sets. However, Nadal came out victorious, 6-2, in the final set. This was not without a lot of hand wringing and nail biting for fans. In the end, it was worth it for the enthusiastic crowd at the Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park.

Rafael Nadal's momentum from the semi-finals carried over into the final. In the semi-final, he played a hard-fought match against Fernando Verdasco. Both men are from Spain, with Rafael Nadal from Majorca. The largest island of Spain, Majorca is in the Mediterranean Sea and part of the Balearic Islands archipelago. Nadal is the first Spaniard to win in Melbourne.

Nadal had a marathon semi-final match against Verdasco that lasted more than five hours. You would think exhaustion would have been a factor for him in the ensuing final. However fatigue was more a nuisance than a hindrance to Nadal's efforts. He knew what he was in for against the always-tough Federer. He rose to the challenge.

The crowd witnessed two men at the epitome of tennis excellence. Their final match was over four hours long. It was high-intensity all the way. The 22-year-old Nadal had some amazing forehand shots (on the run) that dug him out of dangerous situations. In addition, he made beelines for Federer's drop shots and caught up to them consistently.

Federer played excellent throughout the final match as well. In fact, he had numerous opportunities to win the Australian Men's Final. Federer volleyed back many powerful overhead shots that gave Nadal trouble. With these and his other strategies Federer won set two, 6-3, and set four by the same score.

Rafael Nadal countered with consistent backhand efforts. He definitely needed these accurate shots. He was facing an opponent who won the Men's Australian Tennis Final in 2004, 2006 and 2007. Nadal was a semi-finalist in the 2008 Australian Men's Tennis Final. The world's current third-ranked men's tennis player, Novak Djokovic won this event in 2008.

The fourth set of this year's final was particularly dramatic. Nadal chased a lob down that was over his head. He chased it down with his back to the net and connected. He also exhibited in-air body twists to connect with Federer's powerful overhead shots. Truly, the crowd was witnessing years of training and perseverance on the open court.

At one point in the fourth set, the score was 2-2. A rally from all areas of the court was in progress. It ended with a Nadal forehand that hugged the line. This was a significant shot. Even though he lost this set, the shot inspired Nadal. It gave him the momentum to secure his victory in the fifth set.

This victory gave Rafael Nadal his first hard-court Grand Slam title. He is the number one ranked men's player, with Federer ranked second. Federer is now 2-5 versus Nadal in Grand Slam finals. The two men have a great, friendly rivalry going. Nadal has victories now against Federer on clay, grass and the aforementioned hard-court. This is Nadal's sixth major title win. It is also his fifth straight victory over Roger Federer.

While still excellent tennis, the Women's Australian Tennis Final was less dramatic. Serena Williams of the United States defeated Russian Dinara Safina. The final score was 6-0, 6-3, in Williams' favor. Serena is the number one ranked female player. Safina is second. Jelena Jankovic of Serbia and Montenegro is third.

Serena Williams won this final in under one hour. It was the first evening women's final in Australia. For the 27 year-old tennis star, it was her 10th Grand Slam victory.

There will certainly be more dramatic and close women's finals coming down the pike. As far as men's finals go, they will have to raise their games to new heights to top this match Down Under. It most definitely can happen. It will be well worth it when a match of this caliber comes around again.

Since Government intervention in economic affairs is indispensable in the present economic scenario, the knowledge of aggregates is of great importance in the framing as well as the implementation of economic policies of the nation.ii) BASIS FOR MICROSTUDY:~ Macroeconomics provides the basis for microeconomic analysis as the study of aggregates helps to understand and verify the behaviours of individual units.iii) MULTI-DIMENSIONAL STUDY:~ Macroeconomics has a very wide scope and covers multi-dimensional aspects like population, employment, income, production, distribution, consumption, inflation, etc.~ This is very helpful in controlling fluctuations in these factors.vi) NATIONAL INCOME:~ Macroeconomics studies national income accounting which helps to understand the distribution of income among different groups of people. It is also instrumental in forecasting the level of economic activity.v) SPECIAL GROWTH MODELS:~ Macroeconomics has been useful in developing special growth models. These growth models are applied for economic development because the economics of growth is, in essence, the study of macroeconomics.vi) MONETARY PROBLEMS:~ Macroeconomics has special significance in studying monetary problems that adversely affect the economy.~ In fact, macroeconomics focuses on the problems of inflation and deflation and their solution by adopting monetary, fiscal and direct control measures.*LIMITATION:~ Though macro-economics is essential in economic analysis and has great practical and theoretical importance, it suffers from certain drawbacks or limitation. These are:i) UNREALISTIC ASSUMPTIONS:~ Macroeconomics assumes that the aggregates are homogeneous. Such an assumption is, however, unrealistic.ii) GENERAL ECONOMIC WELFARE:~ Macroeconomics deal with general welfare and disregards the welfare at individual levels though individual welfare forms an important part of economic study.*CONCLUSION:~ In spite of its limitations, macroeconomics is of great practical importance and is widely used.~ It provides practical solution to economic problems.~ It is complementary to microeconomics and the study of both is vital for proper analysis of economic problems.

In 1965, when beer connoisseur Fritz Maytag first visited the struggling Anchor Brewery, which was set to close within weeks, he had no idea how to brew beer. But he was almost instantly sold on Anchor's traditional methods, and the idea of becoming a brewmaster sparked a revival of the Anchor Brewing Company.

Over the next few years, Maytag devoted himself to learning traditional craft brewing from the ground up.

His approach toward brewing, defined by innovation, creativity, and exploration, marked the beginning of the craft-beer revolution.

Between 1965 and 1971, Maytag learned how to brew from scratch, and when Anchor again began selling its Steam beer in 1971, it became recognized as the representative California common beer, a modern handcrafted brew encapsulating the history and culture of the original California immigrants' brewing processes.

Few people love talking about food more than Dan Pashman and Mark Garrison.

They're the guys behind the popular blog and podcast The Sporkful. Its motto: "It's not for foodies, it's for eaters."

"We like to appeal more to the universal audience," Pashman tells NPR's Rachel Martin. Foodies implies "a certain amount of pretension and expertise." Eaters, on the other hand, are pretty widespread. "We all eat, and we all enjoy eating."

With that in mind, we asked them to share some grill tips ? including how to grill an egg ? for this Memorial Day weekend.

The Perfect Burger

First things first: chuck is important. That means a meat-to-fat radio of between 80/20 and 75/25. But Pashman counters, "I'd say 82.5 is your sweet spot."

You can also visit your local butcher, Garrison says, and ask him for his favorite mix. "Just a little bit of salt, a little bit of pepper, and treat it well."

The key, they add, is to flip the burger just once on the grill ? and not to press it against the grill with your spatula. "With every flip," Garrison says, "you lose juices." Those juices taste better in the burger than on your coals.

As for cheese, you can't go wrong with good, old-fashioned American. Smoked Gouda can also work well, "but nothing overpowering," Garrison says. "You want the meat to be the star ? you want your cheese to be like a George Clooney: talented and good, but not someone who has to steal the show."

Condiments are a matter of taste. For any condiment, Pashman espouses the dipping method ? "on a per-bite basis. That allows you to regulate the amount of condiment per bite."

That, Garrison says, is a form of burger torture.

"Every condiment should be applied to the bun before the burger," he says. "I say do not dunk until the burger enters the crescent-moon phase."

I am famous for this recipe, but this is the first time I'm divulging it in print. For decades, people have wondered how I make my famous Cheeseburger with Cheese on the Bottom, which orients the cheese tongue-ward in order to maximize cheesy goodness. Ingredients

1 hamburger seasoned to taste (I recommend salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder)
1 slice cheese
1 hamburger bun

Directions

Place the hamburger on the grill and cook it. When the burger is nearly cooked to your desired temperature, place the slice of cheese on top of it. At the same time, place the bun halves on the perimeter of the grill, interior sides down, where they will get lightly toasted without getting burnt. (Do not use the grill's top rack for bun toasting, that only dries out a bun without really toasting it.) Close the grill so the cheese melts on the burger. When the cheese is melted, take the bottom bun and place it on top of the burger, so the interior side of the bottom bun is laid against the cheese, and the exterior side of the bottom bun is facing skyward. Remove the top bun from the grill and place it on a plate, upside down, so the interior side is facing skyward. Use a spatula to remove the burger and place it on the top bun on the plate. Now use your hand to flip the burger over, so the cheese is facing tongue-ward. Look at what you just created. Admire it. Eat it.

4 teaspoons sun-dried tomato pesto
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan

Directions

Combine ingredients in a small bowl. Let the mixture come to room temperature. When burgers are ready, spread the mixture on both sides of a lightly toasted bun. Makes enough for 4-5 burgers.

Barbecued Eggs

Argentine engineering makes it possible to cook an egg over the coals without a mess, and you've never tasted eggs so smoky and delicious.

Ingredients

1 large bell pepper, the bigger the better
2 eggs
hot sauce, salt and black pepper to taste

Directions

You'll need the bell pepper to sit stably on the grill, or else the raw egg will spill out and make a tragic mess. Place the pepper flat on your cutting board and slice in half parallel to the board. Scrape out the seeds and placenta (yup, that's really what it's called), being careful not to pierce the outer wall.

Crack an egg into each half of the pepper. Try to distribute the egg into the whole cavity.

Place the filled pepper over the hottest part of the grill. It tastes best with the pepper's skin charred. Close the grill. If you're going to eat it with a knife and fork, cooking it to over-easy is fine. But if you're going to serve it as finger food, cook it a bit longer, so you don't have a runny yolk. It's great on its own, but better still with hot sauce, salt and a little black pepper on top.

Grilled Provolone

Ingredients

provolone cheese, sliced about 3/4-inch thick
1 tablespoons oregano
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
olive oil

Directions

Let the cheese slab sit and come to room temperature. Rub a thin layer of olive oil on it. Then press in oregano on both sides, adding red pepper flakes if you want a bit of heat.

The fastest and smokiest way would be to put it directly on the grill over the coals. But if you're a minute late pulling it off, you've got a gooey mess all over your grill. Best bet is to put a layer of aluminum foil over the grill, or watch it very carefully.

Cook it until it's a hot, gooey puddle of melty, cheesy joy. No need to flip it. Serve it hot with crackers, crusty bread or all by itself.

New breast cancer guidelines 'unsafe': women_Healthy Tips ...

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) ? More than eight out of 10 women say new guidelines recommending against routine breast cancer screening of women under 50 are ?unsafe,? according to a small survey.

But most of the women also grossly overestimate their risk of developing the disease, researchers from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester found.

?Indeed, they have been exposed to consistent and high profile media campaigns, endorsed by medicine and a variety of interest groups, that have indoctrinated them into the concepts that mammograms lead to early detection and early detection saves lives,? the researchers write in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The controversy over screening mammography flared up in late 2009, when a government-funded group of independent experts decided to change its recommendations.

Instead of advising annual mammograms in all women age 40 and above, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) said women shouldn?t routinely get screened until they hit 50. And those between 50 and 74 should only have mammograms every two years.

What the group didn?t say, however, is that no women under 50 should be screened. It left that up to the individual woman and her doctor to decide based on her personal risk factors and preferences.

But the USPSTF recommendations flew in the face of many years of aggressive PR campaigns, and met staunch resistance from advocacy groups, news organizations and medical groups alike.

To find out what women themselves think, Dr. Autumn Davidson and her colleagues gave questionnaires to 247 women in their 40s, who came to the hospital for an annual well-woman exam.

More than eight out of 10 of the woman said they wanted yearly mammograms, felt the new USPSTF guidelines were unsafe, and wouldn?t delay screening until they turned 50.

Most of them also had an inflated sense of their breast cancer risk. On average, they put US women?s lifetime risk of developing the disease at 37 percent.

Here?s what scientists agree on: over their lifetime, 12 percent, or one in eight women, will get breast cancer.

According to Dr. Michael LeFevre of the USPSTF, about 30 out of 1,000 40-year-olds will die from the disease in the absence of screening.

If screening is started at 50 and done every two years until the women hit 75, seven of those deaths would be prevented. Starting at age 40 instead would stave off one additional death.

From an individual woman?s point of view, that extra risk reduction is real, but quite small. And it comes with a price tag.

For some women, LeFevre said, mammography is a painful experience, and at least one in two who are screened annually throughout their 40s will trigger a false alarm ? that is, the mammogram shows a suspicious mass that turns out not to be dangerous.

In the meantime, the woman has gone through additional testing, which exposes her to more radiation, and sometimes had a painful, invasive and expensive biopsy done.

?Some women respond with increased stress and anxiety and apprehension,? LeFevre told Reuters Health. ?The decision should be an individual one.?

A typical breast biopsy procedure, stereotactic core biopsy, costs $ 2,000 or more. Surgical biopsies involve general anesthesia and higher costs. About four in five women referred for biopsy based on suspicious mammograms turn out to not have cancer.

Yet, according to the new survey, women who?d had false-positive results were less likely to want to delay screening until they turned 50 ? perhaps because they get extra worried about breast cancer, suggested LeFevre.

In his view, LeFevre said, advocacy groups have given women an unrealistic perception of how common breast cancer is and to what extent screening is helpful. On the other hand, the groups have undersold the potential harms of screening.

?To encourage women to have mammography there have been some fairly strong public relations campaigns,? he said, ?For instance, there has been one in the past saying that if you?re not having annual mammography you need more than your breast examined.?

Elizabeth Thompson, president of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a large advocacy group based in Dallas, Texas, said her organization worried that USPSTF?s new recommendations would prevent women in their 40s from being reimbursed for screening.

The group, along with many others, recommends that women in their 40s should have a mammogram every year starting at age 40 if they are at average risk.

?Our advice is always to talk with their doctors about their risk,? said Thompson. ?Forty percent of the women who are eligible to be screened aren?t being screened.?

She added that the new survey is small, and might not be representative of American women in general.

?I don?t think today that we have fear-mongering when one in three women will be diagnosed with (any form of) cancer in their lifetime and one in two men,? Thompson told Reuters Health.

The survey also showed that women?s opinions are colored by the news they read.

After reading two published newspaper articles about the USPSTF?s new recommendations, women who were given a story that was favorable to the USPSTF were less likely to believe they should get mammograms in their 40s ? yet more than 80 percent of them still believed they should.

?As we strive to move towards a more evidence-based system of health care, it would be beneficial for policy makers, health care providers, and media outlets alike to recognize the crucial role the press plays in shaping patients? opinions, and this should be factored in when considering recommending change,? Davidson and her colleagues write.

My family loves board games! We play them all the time! Even before we had kids we would have a game night where we would invite friends over to play. Now that the kids are getting older we have started introducing them to preschool games and board games. However, we're also a family that travels a lot. I loved this game growing up and was shocked that my husband has never played it. After teaching him how to play the game (which is quite simple) we have played it every night before we go to bed. The best part is, it's so small and compact that you can play it right in the comfort of your bed! It comes in it's own carrying case. You just take off the plastic lid attach it to the bottom and you have created a playing platform. The playing pegs fit nicely into the slots and my only issue with them is the size. They are a little small for younger kids to keep track of. On the other hand it was great for my little ones to work on fine motor skills! The games are also quite durable. We've played it several times and the bobble popper still works great! This is now a family favorite.

Why Choose? BlueStacks Lets Users Dual Boot Windows and Android

Start-up BlueStacks has emerged from stealth mode to wow the world with software that lets Windows PCs dual boot with Android.

The Campbell, Calif. company was thrown into the spotlight this week when Citrix announced during its Synergy 2011 user conference that it would be embedding BlueStacks into its desktop virtualization software, Citrix Receiver. A beta version of the BlueStacks feature is slated to be available with Receiver around the third quarter. But that's merely the news that gained BlueStacks instant celebrity status. Users will also soon be able to get BlueStacks on other devices. Eventually, the company intends to have a runtime version available directly to end users, too, although it is first selling its wares only to OEMs.

BlueStacks is the power behind the dual-boot ViewSonic ViewPad 10 Pro, which features Windows 7 and Android. BlueStacks runs Android in an x64 hypervisor. Android apps can appear either as an icon on the Windows desktop, or within a full Android environment. The software supports mouse and keyboard input, as well as multi-touch input. Android applications can run in Windows and be launched by shortcuts, just like a Windows app.

Of course, Android apps have been able to run on Windows through emulation for quite some time, with all the performance degradation that entails. But BlueStacks has taken the open source OS and built a native x86 Android runtime environment that it says will perform as well on a Windows machine as any Windows app. BlueStacks isn't the first to try and port Android to another OS. Canonical put in a toe in the water a couple of years ago, trying to bring Android to Ubuntu Linux, but ultimately, it never managed to create a production quality stack and that project faded from the spotlight.

But with OEM partnerships blossoming, such as the ones with Citrix and Viewsonic, and a new influx of $7.6 million in Series A financing from a handful of VCs, BlueStack is positioned for success.

The tool is of particular interest to Windows 7 tablet makers, as it gives users of such tablets access to the vast-and-growing Android marketplace. The BlueStacks software includes access to Android apps from Amazon?s AppStore and other app stores like GetJar and SlideMe through an "Apps" broker service. All apps accessible via the broker are guaranteed to work on Windows PC devices, the company promises, and apps purchased from Amazon can be shared across multiple PC and phone devices, it says. However, the software doesn't yet offer access to Google's Android Marketplace, because for now Google only allows apps from there to be downloaded to ARM-based devices, the company says.

BlueStacks will support Honeycomb, too, the company says, once Google opens that code and it works its way onto end users devices.

Announcements of more OEMs using BlueStacks are trickling out now, with news expected at the upcoming Computex event.? An Alpha version of the downloadable software could be available as soon as this summer. BlueStacks is collecting names of those interested in testing its Alpha code on its website.
