Clash of the Titans: Newcastle look forward to Northumbria encounter

Wednesday 5th December sees the Newcastle University Rugby Union 1st XV continue their fierce rivalry with their Tyne counterparts by taking on Northumbria once more.

The league fixture is one that both coaches and players look forward to each year and ? hosted at Kingston Park, home to the Newcastle Falcons ? the match will catch the attention of every Newcastle student, not just the regular avid fans.

With a win and a loss last year, Team Newcastle is keen to go one better this time around and kick start their campaign with a monumental victory.

This season has been somewhat frustrating for Newcastle thus far. Losing by just four points on the first league week and, despite an encouraging win against a strong Leeds University outfit since then, recently they have been on a poor run of form. With aspirations to finish in the top four and therefore earn the right to play in the top cup competition, Newcastle see Wednesday as an ideal opportunity to get points on the board.

Director of Rugby Tom Wilkinson expects a close game. ?It will be a close run thing, as it always is in these games, but we have prepared well and we have a strong team out so I am confident.?

?The boys and the club as a whole always get very excited in the weeks leading up to these games, training gets a slightly sharper edge and it is?all the boys talk about.?

Despite the rivalry and anticipation surrounding Wednesday?s game, Wilkinson has his sights set on the fixture and nothing more. ?There are no scores to settle. This is just another must win game, like they all are in the Premiership.?

Tickets for the match can be purchased from the Sports Centre ONLY at ?5.00 per ticket.
