Many women love shoes, any kind of shoe. And shoes come in thousands of different styles, heights, and shapes. But do shoes matter? What about a shoe makes the difference? How many of you buy and wear shoes because they are cute and never give your feet a second thought?
Here is the truth about shoes. Shoes matter. Not the look, not the price, and certainly not the name brand but shoes matter for other important reasons.
1. Shoes should support your arch inside the shoe. Period. The arch in your foot must be supported so your feet feel better but also so your back is supported in proper alignment. It matters.
2. Shoes should offer balance. Balance helps to maintain spine support, neck support, and prevents falling. It matters. Women, that means that flip flops with no arch and no balance are not a healthy choice for long term shoe wear. It means that high heels and high boots are not a healthy choice for long term shoe wear.
3. Shoes should not cramp toes together. Wearing shoes that are too small or that have a very narrow pointed toe will cramp toes together and may even cause bone deformity with long term wear. It matters.
4. Shoes should protect your heel.? Shoes should offer ankle balance and support. Shoes should fit well and not cause blisters. It matters.
Any shoe will do for a short amount of time, to the beach in flip flops, to the prom with high heels, or out to dinner in a sleek pair of high heel boots. But these types of shoes are not healthy for long term or every day use. It matters.
The good news is there are many brands and styles of women?s shoes that support the arch of the foot?and offer balance. Birkenstock and Naturalizer are two that come to mind but there are tons of other great brand names that understand that shoes do matter. What kind of shoes are in your closet? Are they for looks or for healthy feet and spine?
